Construction of an outdoor amphitheatre on Sainte-Hélène Island will disrupt the activities of over 65 000 Montrealers this summer. Leisure swimmers and athletes will no longer have access to the Jean-Drapeau Park’s Aquatic Complex, since it will be closed for the whole summer of 2017, and possibly in 2018 as well. With summer only a few weeks away, they will need to find a plan B which may not suit their needs.
Moreover, over 1000 mature trees, most of them healthy, will be cut down and replaced by a concrete structure. We can’t just sit back and watch this happen.
Projet Montréal believes that sports teams, families and outdoor enthusiasts shouldn’t bear the brunt of a project designed for a private developer. For this reason, we ask the mayor of Montreal to find a solution now so that Montrealers can benefit from the facilities at the Jean-Drapeau Aquatic Complex this summer.
