What's next for Pierrefonds?

The Cap Nature development project in Pierrefonds-Roxboro is making headlines. It seems that the conclusions of the committee supposed to study a new real estate project in the green heart of Pierrefonds were written in advance.

At Projet Montreal, we believe that Pierrefonds' residents must absolutely be consulted.

So, what future do you see for green spaces in Montreal? Answer our survey!

What's next for green spaces in Montreal?

tree snow

The future of one of Montreal's last undeveloped green spaces in Montreal is at risk. In Pierrefonds, some 16km2 are scattered with a number of parks and natural areas, including the Cap-St-Jacques nature park, the Morgan Arboretum and the l'Anse-à-l'Orme protected area.

Denis Coderre is offering some of this land up to developers. At Projet Montreal, we believe citizens should be consulted, and we want to know what Montrealers and those who use these green spaces think.

Q: What motivated your choice? Tell us more!
A: I wish to see increased densification in already developed parts of the city and more green spaces / pedestrian areas in Montreal. More places for kids to play and for people to enjoy themselves.

Q: What motivated your choice? Tell us more!
A: The Bobolinks. If you turn this area into a park with camping…. there will be disruption to their habitat, children running around all summer scaring them (they are a very shy bird and there are not many left on the island of Montreal). Unless you can PROMISE AND DELIVER on protecting them…. leave it as is !!!

Q: What motivated your choice? Tell us more!
A: We need the preservation of green spaces to preserve the bio-diversity of plant and animal species, to reduce and contain carbon gas emissions(and thus greenhouse gasses), to deliver oxygen and be a zone against increasing temperatures, to allow people to walk in nature and thus contribute to a healthier lifestyle(both physically and mentally), to not allow more cars on the roads, etc.

Q: What motivated your choice? Tell us more!
A: We need forested land to help combat pollution. Protect biodiversity. Places where schools can bring young students to see nature and all it’s beauty first hand instead of only on-line!! Nature walks, cross country trails, bird watching as well as deer, fox, etc. Instead of just buildings and houses ad nauseum. And when it is too late and all is gone….we will lament its loss and future generations will ask why we didn’t know any better!

Q: What motivated your choice? Tell us more!
A: I’m an avid bird watcher and nature lover and grew up in Pierrefonds. (45 yrs) and thats where I developed my love all things wild and forests, ponds, etc. I’ve watched all the green space be developed and its needs to be protected. Where is the future generations supposed to go and see nature if its all gone? If all the wildflowers and habitats the birds and animals need to survive if its all built up? IT MUST BE PROTECTED AND NOT DEVELOPED!!!!

Q: What motivated your choice? Tell us more!
A: It’s important to preserve green spaces in the heart of a large city. Also, Montreal city (with the CMM) signed a few years ago the “Trame Verte et Bleue” project, so they should be preserving those spaces instead of building on them if they want to respect their word and this vision of a better Montreal.

A: I’m studying environmental biology at McGill University and I believe that it would be a great loss to lose more green space in Montreal. We have some of the greatest biodiversity in Quebec here – it should be protected.

A: We need more greenspace for everyone and all the creatures that live around us. We are losing too many greenspaces to developments and with no wild areas no creatures.
