Notre-Dame-de-Grâce: Ensuring Safety for Cyclists at Décarie and de Maisonneuve
Thursday June 9, 2011
As the construction of the McGill University Health Centre goes forward, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce councillor Peter McQueen insists on the absolute need to secure the bike path near the Vendôme metro station. This would minimize the risks cyclists face every day when riding the bike path between NDG and downtown Montreal, at the Décarie/de Maisonneuve intersection.
It is with the purpose of ensuring that the network of bike lanes remains open in the east-west line, and to ensure safety at the most dangerous intersection in Montreal—at the corner of the Décarie and de Maisonneuve—that the 2nd opposition requested, in May 2010, a study on the potential for a bike path to be built over this crossroads.
The study has shown that it would be possible to connect the de Maisonneuve bike path between Addington St. and the Vendôme metro station, by taking advantage of the vacant lots along de Maisonneuve Blvd. and the CP right-of-way that is no longer in use. Read the study by clicking here.
Last May and June, Peter McQueen tabled a motion at the Côte-Des-Neiges—NDG borough council and at the City of Montreal Council, in order to include a bike path component to the specifications of the call for tender issued for the repairs of the Décarie overpass, a motion Union Montréal refused to support.

Get involved in your borough
Projet Montréal encourages citizens' participation at the municipal level, and the structure of the party reflects this mind-set. Indeed, more than just having a board of directors for the party, Projet Montréal has a decision-making body located in each borough. This group is called the Local Borough Association, recognized by the acronym ALA (Association locale d'arrondissement). The ALA's activities are coordinated by the local committee; its members are elected by the members of the borough during the General Assembly.
